Healthy Communities

Does your community have what it takes to earn a Governor’s HealthyCommunity designation? We’re looking for special communities across Kansas that promote good health and activities for its residents in safe and sustainable environments.

There are two paths to being designated a Governor’s HealthyCommunity. If selected for a Get It! - Do It! (GIDI) grant through Kansas PRIDE and K-State Research & Extension, your community will receive its designation upon the successful completion of the grant project.

What is a GIDI Grant?

"Get It - Do It!" grants provide a unique opportunity for PRIDE Community groups to collaborate with local Extension agents to promote health with Kansas teens. $3,000 mini-grants to PRIDE Community groups help fund physical activity and health promotion projects. Appropriate projects include trail development and promotion, physical activity promotion, establishment of walking/biking clubs, cooperation with schools (e.g. Coordinated School Health) and TV/screen-time reduction campaigns.

Congratulations to the 2008/2009 GIDI recipients! They are:

Glasco: Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through community involvement in enhanced projects (Make a Difference Day, mentors, Free U classes, etc.)

Grinnell: Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through workout stations and programming located in Grinnell Park

Melvern: Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through community involvement in Totally Getting into Fitness (TGIF)

Rossville: Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through community involvement in sand volleyball court construction and promotion

Spearville: Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through community involvement in Walk KS and local wellness campaign sponsored by local PRIDE and Spearville Wellness Center

Stafford Grant will increase access to physical activity opportunities through community involvement in improved park accessibility, signage and promotion
